Our Story

We have a successful track record in providing technology and digital skills learning opportunities to young people with a high range of special educational needs. We have grown to offer a unique tech based programme to local authorities, specialist provisions  and virtual schools across Devon and Somerset.

We originally started SGM at Dame Hannah’s Seale Hayne, working in strategic partnership with the charity, In 2019 we moved to our own home in Devon  Square, Newton Abbot, offering our learners easy public transport links and creating even greater value to our partner organisations.

Social skills and self-esteem.

Most of our activities are group based, or if individual, able to be shared and discussed with the rest of the room, enabling student interaction with peers. Learners can discover the activities of others and find new interests, while assisting each other when help is asked for. Discussions and group activities are mediated to ensure that there is always a positive outcome with a focus on reasonable tolerance of other opinions and perspectives, encouraging social acceptance.

Core Provision

We are passionate about the technology education and believe all our young people need to be digitally literate to face the opportunities and challenges the near future of employment holds. It is our vision to keep expanding what we offer to fill in the shortfall in traditional education and keep providing recourses to better prepare the young people of today into the bright minds of tomorrow.

By parents for parents

The management team are all parents and are very aware of the challenges associated with youngsters who are highly ‘focussed’ and tech savvy.  We are ASD friendly and aim to make sure that any special need or perceived disability is turned into a super power by developing broader self-confidence through achieving purpose.

Classroom collaboration.

You Ask, We Tell

Here are some commonly asked questions

Can you meet ASD needs?

Yes we can. We will achieve this through:

  • Structured learning environment
  • Individual workstations
  • Calm environment
  • Encouraged social interaction

The bespoke package for each student is tailored to individual levels of need, making the learning experience positive and assisting in building learner confidence and capability.

What will my young person learn with you?

We offer a range of academic and vocational pathways all centred around the concepts of computer science. With us, learners will have opportunity to learn:

  • Coding skills
  • Web design skills
  • Digital art both 2D and 3D
  • NCFE Level 1, 2 and 3 qualifications
  • Unity Certification
  • Game design
  • Digital entrepreneurship
  • and more.

We uphold and maintain a calm educational environment where students engage at their own pace.  The bespoke package for each student is tailored to individual levels of engagement, making the learning experience positiveand assisting in building learner confidence and capability.

How do you support social, emotional and mental health needs?

We maintain a safe, stable, and inclusive environment, where learners can expect to follow a structure that works for them, while able to be shared with their peers. The learning environment has been adapted to mitigate the risks and severity of behavioural outbursts through upholding and maintaining a calm space where students engage at their own speed. We take a pastoral approach, working through situations with the learner and helping them identify strategies to manage stressful situations and develop their own mechanisms of self-regulation.
